Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data Us To Share collects, why we collect it, how we protect it, and the rights you have over it.
1. Who we are
Us To Share (“Us To Share,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is a service operated by Investar ehf., a private limited company registered in Iceland. We are the “data controller” responsible for the personal data described in this policy, which means we decide how and why your data is processed. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, you can reach us at info@ustoshare.com.
2. The data we collect
We only collect the data we need to run Us To Share and give you a useful, personal experience. This falls into the following categories:
2.1 Information you give us
When you create an account we collect your name, username, email address, and password. You may also choose to add profile content such as a photo and a short bio. If you contact us for support, we keep that correspondence so we can help you and improve the Service.
2.2 Information created as you use the Service
As you use Us To Share we store the content and activity that make the app work: the restaurants you rate, review, and save to your wishlist, the people you follow and who follow you, and the recommendations shared with you. This information is central to the Service — it is what lets us show you places that the people whose taste you trust actually rated.
2.3 Technical and usage data
We automatically collect limited technical data needed to operate and secure the Service, such as device type, operating system, app version, approximate region, log data, and basic usage analytics. Where the Service uses your location to show nearby places, we only do so with your device permission, and you can withdraw that permission at any time in your device settings.
3. How we use your data
We use your personal data to: (i) create and maintain your account; (ii) provide the core Service, including surfacing recommendations from people you follow and syncing your ratings and wishlist across your devices; (iii) send you notifications and service communications you have asked for or that are necessary to operate your account; (iv) keep the platform safe by detecting and preventing fraud, abuse, and security incidents; (v) improve and develop the Service; and (vi) comply with our legal obligations.
4. Our legal bases for processing
Under the GDPR we rely on the following legal bases. We process the data needed to provide the Service to you on the basis of performance of our contract with you (our Terms of Service). We rely on your consent for optional features such as push notifications and, where applicable, certain analytics — you can withdraw consent at any time. We rely on our legitimate interests to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and improve our product, balanced against your rights. Where the law requires it, we process data to meet a legal obligation.
5. How we share data
We do not sell your personal data, and we never will. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
5.1 With other users
Us To Share is a social product. Your profile, the restaurants you rate and save, and your follower relationships are visible to people in line with your settings and the way the Service works. Please only share what you are comfortable being seen by the people in your network.
5.2 With service providers
We work with trusted third parties who process data on our behalf and under contract — for example cloud hosting and database infrastructure, push notification delivery, and product analytics. These providers may only use your data to perform services for us and are bound by confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
5.3 Legal and safety
We may disclose data if required to do so by law, or where we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with a legal request, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights, safety, and property of our users or the public.
6. International transfers
Some of our service providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens, we take steps to ensure your data receives an equivalent level of protection — for example by relying on providers covered by an adequacy decision or by putting in place Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.
7. How long we keep your data
We keep your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Backup copies may persist for a limited time before being overwritten in the ordinary course.
8. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct inaccurate data, to have your data erased, to restrict or object to certain processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. You can delete your account at any time in the app at Settings > Privacy Settings > Delete Account, or contact us at info@ustoshare.com to exercise any of these rights. We will respond within the timeframes required by law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority — in Iceland this is the Data Protection Authority (Persónuvernd, personuvernd.is).
9. How we protect your data
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse, including encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable infrastructure providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your data and to address vulnerabilities promptly.
10. Children’s privacy
Us To Share is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. If we make a material change, we will take reasonable steps to notify you — for example through the app or by email — before it takes effect. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised.
12. Contact us
If you have any questions, requests, or concerns about this policy or your personal data, please email us at info@ustoshare.com.
